Breast - SM Plastic Surgery

Breast (Breast Augmentation)

Breast surgery assesses the structure of the ribcage, body type, skin elasticity and the volume you want, and selects the implant and incision method that suit — a tailored design considering a natural line in proportion to the body and left-right balance. Results vary from person to person.

Breast, In short?

Breast augmentation assesses the structure of the ribcage, body type, skin elasticity and the volume you want, and selects the implant and incision method that suit. SM Plastic Surgery works to a tailored design that considers a natural line in proportion to the body and left-right balance, and where general anaesthesia is used an anaesthesiologist takes charge, putting safety first. Results and the pace of recovery vary from person to person.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does breast augmentation proceed?

Body type, the structure of the ribcage, skin elasticity and the volume you want are assessed together, and the implant and incision method that suit are chosen. SM Plastic Surgery puts a natural line and safety first, offering a tailored design.

How is the implant chosen?

The implant is not chosen by size alone; body type, the width of the ribcage, skin thickness and the existing breast tissue are all considered. Through a full consultation, a natural, balanced result is designed for you.

How long does recovery take after breast augmentation?

It varies, but a return to daily life is generally possible from about 3 days after surgery. The first follow-up check is at day 30, and it can take longer for swelling to subside and the tissue to settle. During recovery it matters to follow the medical team's guidance.

Are the feel and shape natural after surgery?

With the state of the skin and breast tissue, and an implant chosen to suit, a natural feel and line can be expected. SM Plastic Surgery works to a tailored design that considers body type and proportion, aiming for a natural result.

After breast augmentation, can revision become necessary?

Depending on the implant and individual change, revision can become necessary; but through authentic implants and structured aftercare, we manage so a stable state can be maintained.

Which is better, breast implants or fat grafting?

The two have different purposes. An implant creates the volume you want more distinctly, while fat grafting uses your own fat so the change tends to look natural. The volume that can be added also differs, roughly one to two cup sizes with fat grafting and three to four with an implant, so the choice is made by looking at the size you want together with your body type.

What is the difference between round and teardrop implants?

A round implant fills the upper and lower parts fairly evenly, while a teardrop implant is thicker at the bottom, giving a natural silhouette and settling into the tissue so that its position stays stable. Which suits you depends on the width of your ribcage, the thickness of your skin and the shape you want, and it varies from person to person.

Where is the incision made in breast augmentation?

The incision is chosen from a periareolar incision, a transaxillary incision under the arm, or an inframammary incision along the breast fold. It is decided by considering the type and size of the implant, the condition of the breast tissue and how visible the scar would be, and we explain which position suits you at the consultation and examination.

What does dual plane mean?

The dual plane technique creates the pocket for the implant across two layers, partly under the chest muscle and partly under the breast tissue. It is one of the main techniques used at SM Plastic Surgery. Whether it can be applied depends on how much breast tissue there is and how much sagging is present, so it is decided after examination.

Do breast implants have a lifespan?

We cannot give a single replacement interval that applies to everyone, because the condition of the implant and the changes in breast tissue appear differently in each person. At SM Plastic Surgery we check your progress at regular examinations three, six and twelve months after surgery, and we advise you to keep having the condition checked periodically after that.

My breasts are uneven. Can surgery even them out?

It is common for the two breasts to differ in size or position to begin with. Before surgery we measure the degree of asymmetry and plan different implant sizes or positions for each side to balance them. Making them completely identical is not possible, and results vary from person to person.

I am slim. Will an implant be obvious?

The thinner the breast tissue and skin, the more we have to consider the chance that the edge of the implant shows. We measure the width of the ribcage, the thickness of the skin and the amount of tissue, and adjust the shape and size of the implant and the layer it is placed in. How natural the result can look is explained at the consultation after examining your breasts.

Do I need to stay in hospital for breast surgery?

As a rule you go home the same day, after your condition has been checked following surgery. Depending on your condition an overnight stay is sometimes arranged. Surgery takes about one to one and a half hours for a straightforward implant placement, and longer if revision surgery or another procedure is carried out at the same time.

What kind of anaesthesia is used for breast surgery?

Sedation is administered by Director Lee Muyoung himself, and when general anaesthesia is used an anaesthesiologist takes charge of it. Which is appropriate depends on the extent of the surgery, your general health and the results of the pre-operative tests, so it is decided after review at the consultation.

Is breast augmentation very painful?

Pain differs according to the layer the implant is placed in, the extent of the surgery and how each person feels it. For the first few days the chest can feel tight and heavy, and during that period we manage the pain and advise you to limit movements that use the arms widely.

Will breast surgery leave a noticeable scar?

The incision is placed where it is hidden by a natural border of the body, such as the areola, the armpit or the breast fold. For the subcutaneous layer we use STRATAFIX sutures, which spread tension evenly along the whole thread without knots and help keep the incision from widening. How a scar heals varies with each person's skin.

How much of the grafted fat remains?

With fat grafting part of the transferred fat is absorbed. Survival rates reported in the literature are generally in the range of 50 to 80 per cent, with individual variation. How much remains depends on your constitution, the amount injected and the condition of the tissue at the site, so we go over the expected range together at the consultation.

How many follow-up visits are there after breast augmentation?

The first check is at day thirty after surgery, and progress is then reviewed at regular examinations at three, six and twelve months. There are also two to three visits for dressing changes and early follow-up soon after surgery, and the schedule may be adjusted according to how recovery goes.

What kind of aftercare is there following breast surgery?

Just after surgery you come in for dressing changes and follow-up, and we explain what activities are suitable and what to be careful of at each stage of recovery. SM Plastic Surgery has introduced CAPS, a device dedicated to breast post-operative care, for early care of the capsule. The method and length of aftercare depend on how your recovery progresses.

Do I need a breast examination before surgery?

SM Plastic Surgery arranges breast examinations before and after surgery by referral to a radiology clinic, working with them in cooperation. This lets us check the condition of the breast tissue in advance and follow your progress afterwards by the same standard. The timing and method of the examination are explained at the consultation.
