Lashes pressed down by sagging eyelids and irritating the eye are one of the indications for middle-age eye surgery. Removing the excess skin can help reduce the downward pressure on the lashes, though how much it improves depends on the condition of the eyelid and varies between individuals.

Overlapping eyelid skin that becomes irritated is also among the conditions addressed by middle-age eye surgery. The excess skin and unnecessary muscle and fat are trimmed to reduce the overlap, and the amount removed is set differently according to the state of the skin.

After the excess skin is trimmed, the line is reset in keeping with the existing crease and balance between both sides is checked, and the resulting height and shape of the line depend on eyelid thickness.

When drooping eyelids block the field of vision, some people end up using the forehead to help open their eyes. Once the excess skin is trimmed and the field of vision opens up, that reliance on the forehead tends to lessen, although the degree varies between individuals.

Middle-age eye surgery takes around one hour and is performed under local or sedation anesthesia. The choice of anesthesia depends on how much tissue is being removed and on your general health, so it is explained during the consultation when the plan is made.
