How do artificial implants and autologous tissue differ?
An artificial implant (silicone, Gore-Tex, artificial dermis) can raise the nose comparatively easily and is straightforward to design with, though it may be felt as a foreign body and can shift under impact. Autologous tissue (ear cartilage, septal cartilage, rib cartilage, autologous dermis, fascia) is less likely to feel foreign, is soft and natural to the touch, and carries no burden of replacement — though it is comparatively demanding to shape, the available amount can be limited depending on the person, and some of the grafted tissue may be absorbed.
What autologous materials are used in implant-free rhinoplasty?
Septal cartilage, ear cartilage, autologous and donated rib cartilage, autologous dermis and fascia are used. The material that suits is chosen according to the state of the nose and the result you want.
Once the graft takes, does autologous tissue stand up to impact?
