Where ordinary double-eyelid surgery aims for a clear crease, single-lid line design keeps the visible line to a minimum, drawing on the natural look of a single or inner fold. It is designed to keep the line low or preserve the single lid, and the method varies with the eye.

It can be considered by those hesitant about double-eyelid surgery, those who want to keep the natural single-lid look, or those whose eyes look hazy or heavy. Where the lid is thick or eye opening weak, however, the result you want may shift, so the method and extent that suit are confirmed at consultation.

A low line made by the buried-suture method can fade or come undone over time. Combining it with a fixation method such as natural adhesion can improve holding power, and how well it holds varies from person to person with lid thickness and how the eyes are habitually opened.

It differs with the fixation method, but where the incision is small, swelling tends to be light and the return to daily life quick. Daily life is generally possible in about 3–7 days, and settling into a natural eye area can take longer. The pace of recovery differs from person to person.

The procedure takes roughly 20 to 40 minutes and is performed under local or sedation anaesthesia. It depends on the fixing method it is combined with. With a method that involves no incision, suture removal may not be needed; where a small incision is made, one week is the usual guide, sometimes as early as day five or as late as the second week.
