A first operation starts from the original eyelid structure, whereas a revision must first clear the adhesion and scar tissue left by the previous surgery before a new design can be made. That means more diagnostic steps to confirm the earlier method and the current tissue condition, and the approach changes with the state of the eye.

Suture removal is based on about one week, though it may be as early as day five or as late as two weeks. The timing varies from person to person depending on the extent of the incision and the pace of healing, so we advise on it while following your progress.

The operation takes about one hour and is performed under local or sedation anesthesia. The time can change with how much adhesion has to be released and whether other procedures are done together, and the type of anesthesia is decided in consultation after checking the condition and the extent of surgery.

Anything that shows which method was used and when it was performed helps with the diagnosis. Photos taken before the earlier surgery are especially useful, since they let us compare with the original shape of the eye. Even without such material we analyze the current condition directly, so the consultation can proceed as usual.

Usually one to two visits are needed for suture removal and progress checks. The number can change depending on how quickly the swelling subsides and how the new crease settles, and we advise on the next visit as we follow your recovery.

When the tissue has not yet settled soon after the previous surgery, or when the remaining eyelid tissue makes the desired change difficult, we may advise waiting instead. If the examination suggests that surgery would bring little change, we say so plainly during the consultation.

Eye makeup is best started once the sutures are out and the wound is confirmed to have healed. Contact lenses are also recommended only after the swelling and irritation have settled, and since the timing varies from person to person we advise on it during your follow-up visits.
